The Importance of Salvation
I. Introduction
There are many things in life that we would categorize as important.
For example:

Friends
-
Family
-
Education
-
A Job/Carrier
-
A House
-
Health
-
Food
-
Clothing
But there is something that is more important than all of these.
Mar 8:36-37 (36) For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (37) Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
This verse says that you have something more valuable than all the riches in this world, including the world itself. Your soul is what has value. The soul is the real you.
The soul can be lost. And losing one soul is like losing the whole world in God’s eyes. The Bible shows us that the soul needs to be saved from Hell.
(Isa 53:10) Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
(Act 2:31) He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
Jesus Christ went to hell and his soul suffered for our sins.
II. Why is Salvation Necessary?
Everybody that is born into this world will one day die. This is a universal law which cannot be altered. The reason for this is stated in Romans 5..
(Rom 5:12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
The reason we all die is because we inherited a sinful nature from Adam. There are no exceptions.
When a baby is born into this world he/she has a nature to sin. After a few months it will be more obvious to see. By the time the child reaches 2 or 3 years of age that little child will be getting into all kinds of trouble.
In Revelation 21:8 the Bible says that all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.
(Rev 21:8) But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
The Bible says that liars cannot go to heaven. That is a problem for me, and probably for you to.
The Bible says that if you steal something, you cannot be part of God’s kingdom. That includes heaven.
1Co 6:9-10 (9) Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, (10) Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
The Bible says that a drunkard cannot be a part of God’s kingdom. In fact the Bible says that there are no human beings on this earth that are without sin.
(Rom 3:23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
So we all are in need of salvation at some point in our lives. Everybody needs salvation. When we speak of salvation we mean being saved from danger. The danger of hell. Hell is a place of God’s wrath, and nobody wants to be a recipient of God’s wrath.
(Joh 3:36) He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
(Rom 1:18) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
God created us with a body, a soul, and a spirit.
At death the body returns to the ground
(Gen 3:19) In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
At death the spirit goes back to God.
(Ecc 12:7) Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
At death the soul leaves the body and lives on throughout eternity. Yes your soul is eternal and it will spend the rest of eternity in one of two destinations: Heaven or Hell.
Luk 16:22-23 (22) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; (23) And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
The body was buried, but he awoke in hell. His soul awoke in hell.
If we look back at I cor 6 and read v11 Paul is talking to some Christians in the church at Corinth.
(1Co 6:11) And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Notice that these people who were once thieves, liars, fornicators, and drunkards were washed, sanctified, and then justified with God.
Washed= to be made clean Sanctified= to be made holy and set apart for God’s use Justified = To prove to be just and conforming to the law.
III. How Does a Person Get Saved?
Let’s look at some scriptures to answer this question.

Who was it that loved the whole world?
Ans: God John 3:16 -
Whom did God give for everyone in the world?
Ans: His only begotton Son John 3:16

Who is God’s Son?
Ans: Jesus John 20:31

Did God send His Son, Jesus, into the world to condemn the world? Ans: No John 3:17

Why did God send his Son into the world?
Ans: That the world might be saved. John 3:17

When does the Holy Bible teach us that those who do not believe shall be condemned?
Ans: He is condemned already. John 3:18
-
So what does mankind need to remedy this problem?
Ans: They need to be born again. John 3:3

Who is the light of the world?
Ans: Jesus John 8:12

How does a person become “Born Again?”
Ans: Receive Jesus John 1:12
It is the receiving of a Person into our heart and life which makes the difference.

Why is it important to Believe and Receive the Lord Jesus as your Saviour?

Ans: Because Jesus is the only way to God. John 14:6

Once we are saved, can we ever lose our salvation? (Can the devil ever get us lost again?)
Ans: No John 10:27-29
IV. Don’t Delay Salvation
The human tendency is to not think about heaven and hell until we get old. But the Bible has some advice for us.
2Co 6:(2) (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) Have you ever put off something and then forgot about it. Some people delay getting save and then as the days pass on it becomes less and less important, and some even forget about it. (Isa 55:6) Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
V. Conclusion

The Holy Spirit is like the wind. You cannot see it, but you can see its effects. You might not know how the Holy Spirit works in a soul, but you will see the effects of the Holy Spirit in you. At times the wind blows and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s a mystery to you and me.
